TOUR OF THE POWER HOUSE

Allatoona Dam is on the Etowah River.  At full pool, Lake Allatoona covers 12,000 acres (19 sq mi) and extends into Bartow, Cobb and Cherokee Counties.  The shoreline length is 270 miles.  The power house has 3 turbine generators for hydropower production: one 2,000 kw and two 36,000 kw units.  Power plant operations began January 1950.  Allatoona is among the top 5 most visited Corps of Engineers lakes in the U.S.  Tour guide from power plant staff.
